Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- The Sri Lanka Air Force has promoted Corporal Rumesh Tharanga to the rank of Sergeant in recognition of his historic gold medal-winning performance in the Men's Javelin Throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

According to the Sri Lanka Air Force, the promotion was approved by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, in recognition of Sergeant Tharanga's outstanding achievement on the international stage.
