Sri Lanka, Feb. 12 -- Sohara Buhari, a member of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) in the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), has lost her council seat following disciplinary action taken by her party for violating party directives.
The action was initiated after Buhari voted in favour of the National People's Power (NPP) during the council's budget vote, defying instructions issued by the SLMC.
SLMC General Secretary and President's Counsel Nizam Kariapper, who is also a Member of Parliament, imposed disciplinary measures against Buhari over the incident.
Following the party's decision, the Election Commissioner confirmed her removal from the council seat.
