Sri Lanka, April 20 -- The Meteorology Department has warned that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today.

The Department said temporary, localized strong winds may also develop during thundershowers.

The public has been urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damage and ensure safety from lightning activity.

According to the advisory, people are strongly advised to seek shelter indoors and avoid taking refuge under trees during thunderstorms. The Met Department further warned against staying in open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and open water bodies during adverse weather conditions.
