Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- Police have heightened security around the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court premises ahead of the scheduled appearance of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa today (16).

The case, filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under money laundering laws, relates to alleged financial irregularities in the aircraft procurement process involving SriLankan Airlines.

Namal Rajapaksa was named as a suspect in the case, following instructions from the Attorney General.

Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations of accepting bribes in connection with the Airbus deal, is currently in remand custody until September 18.
