Sri Lanka, Sept. 28 -- Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage clinched the gold medal in the men's javelin throw at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, securing Sri Lanka's first gold medal at the Games.

Pathirage produced his winning throw of 88.55 metres on his final attempt, overcoming the competition to claim the gold medal.

The performance marks a major achievement for Sri Lankan athletics and gives the country its first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games.
