Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- The route permits of buses found to be operating on kerosene instead of diesel will be temporarily suspended, authorities said.

The decision was taken following a special night-time inspection conducted by the Vehicle Emission Testing Programme in collaboration with the National Transport Commission (NTC) at the Bastian Mawatha Bus Stand in Colombo.

During the inspection, buses were checked for roadworthiness and vehicle emissions. Of the 59 buses inspected, maintenance orders were issued for 39, according to officials.

The special night operation was carried out targeting buses that do not operate during the daytime and therefore tend to avoid routine inspections.
