Sri Lanka, Sept. 3 -- Sri Lanka is witnessing a continued increase in HIV cases, with the latest figures showing a dramatic rise compared to previous years, latest data reveal.
According to the National STD/AIDS Control Programme, a total of 230 cases have been recorded in the first quarter alone (January to March) in 2025.
The first quarter marks the highest number of cases reported in a single quarter since 2009.
Of the cases reported in the first quarter of 2025, 30 males and two females fall within the age range of 15-24, while the remaining cases are individuals above 25 years old.
The male-to-female ratio of reported HIV cases in 2025 stands at 6.6:1.
Furthermore, 2025 has so far reported 10 deaths related to HIV/AIDS
