Ravi K seeks details on El Nino's economic impact
Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- Opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake has questioned whether the government has assessed the likely economic impact of the forecast strong El Nino event expected to affect Sri Lanka during 2026/2027, including its impact on inflation, export crops, government revenue, disaster relief expenditure and the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Raising the matter in parliament, Karunanayake asked whether the government had quantified the likely impact on inflation, the effect on export crops, additional expenditure required for disaster relief, revenue losses to the government and the expected GDP loss under both moderate and severe El Nino scenarios.
