Sri Lanka, Oct. 13 -- The Police Constable, remanded for allegedly assaulting a lawyer at the Mount Lavinia court premises, was greeted with cheers after being granted bail today.

He was released on two sureties of Rs. 200,000 each after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court.

The constable was arrested and remanded following an alleged altercation with a lawyer over moving a vehicle within the court premises on Friday (10).

Upon his release, a crowd surrounded his vehicle, shouting congratulations and even lifting him onto their shoulders in celebration.
