Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- Kataragama Police have launched an investigation after a stock of weapons was discovered near the sluice gate of the Weheragala Reservoir.

Police said the discovery was made after Army officers informed the Kataragama Police, following a drop in the water level of the reservoir.

The recovery included 74 T-56 magazines, 36 LMG magazines, T-81 ammunition, two ammunition boxes, several decayed bullets, and various weapon parts.

The Weheragala Reservoir lies at the border of Kataragama, Lunugamvehera and Gonaganara police divisions.

Kataragama Police officers inspected the site and reported the matter to the Tissamaharama Magistrate's Court.
