Colombo, Sept. 28 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed four senior officers of the Attorney General's Department as President's Counsel, following their promotion to the position of Additional Solicitor General (ASG).
Accordingly, ASG Hiranjan Peiris, ASG Azard Navavi, ASG Lakmali Karunanayake, and ASG Sudarshana De Silva have been appointed as President's Counsel.
President's Counsel is a professional rank and status conferred by the President under Article 33(cc) of the Constitution. According to this Constitutional provision, attorneys-at-law who have reached eminence in the profession and upheld high standards of conduct and professional rectitude may be appointed as President's Counsel by the President.
