Srilanka, Aug. 1 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has congratulated Sri Lankan athlete Rumesh Tharanga on winning the men's javelin gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing the achievement as the fulfilment of the nation's "golden dream."

In a congratulatory message, the President said, "Your gold medal at the Commonwealth Games brings our nation's golden dream into reality. Congratulations, Rumesh Tharanga!"

Tharanga ended Sri Lanka's 20-year wait for a Commonwealth Games gold medal with a championship-winning throw of 89.75 metres.
