Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- The salaries of postal workers currently engaged in strike action will not be paid this month, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara said.

He said a letter has already been sent to the strikers, instructing them to report to work immediately if they wish to receive their monthly salaries. The relevant trade unions have also been officially informed.

According to Sathkumara, the ongoing strike has caused losses amounting to around Rs. 140 million. However, he noted that the distribution of postal bags that had piled up at the Central Post Office is now underway.
