Colombo, Sept. 20 -- The Matara-Hambantota Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau has arrested a police sergeant for allegedly purchasing goods using a bank card belonging to a suspect arrested by the Gandara Police.

The officer, who had been suspended from duty while serving at the Gandara Police, is accused of misusing the card that was taken into custody as part of the suspect's property during an arrest in 2024.

Investigations have revealed that the sergeant used the card to buy items from shops, posing as the card's owner.

The arrested suspect isto be produced before court.
