Srilanka, July 26 -- A Chief Inspector of Police attached to the Special Investigation Unit of the Homagama Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Division has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene after striking two young women in two separate road accidents, police said.

According to the Meegoda Police, the two incidents occurred between on July 25. The first accident took place near the Meegoda fuel station on High-Level Road, while the second occurred near the 20th Mile Post in Wataraka.

Police said the officer allegedly attempted to leave the area in his car after the collisions but was later apprehended by Meegoda Police officers.
