Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- The Polgolla Reservoir will be emptied for about two and a half days from midnight on September 25 to facilitate urgent repairs to its gates, the Water Management Secretariat said today.

Director of the Water Management Secretariat, Engineer Nilantha Dhanapala, said the reservoir would remain empty until around 6 p.m. on September 27.

He made these remarks during a media briefing held today (16) on the possible impact of El Nino on Sri Lanka.

Dhanapala said the temporary emptying of the reservoir was necessary to carry out repairs to the reservoir gates.

He urged residents in Polgolla and Balagolla who depend on the water supply from the reservoir to use water sparingly during this period.
