Srilanka, Aug. 28 -- Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has described veteran politician and former Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara as an important figure in Sri Lanka's left-wing political history.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while attending the launch of a book documenting Nanayakkara's political life and contribution.

Recalling her time in Parliament alongside Nanayakkara, Amarasuriya said that although they had agreed on certain issues and held differing political views on others, she had always respected his contribution to the country's left-wing political movement.

She also recalled engaging in conversations with Nanayakkara about his long political career and experiences.
