Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- A total of 29 mobile phones were recovered today from wards A, C and D of the Boossa High-Security Prison, which houses some of Sri Lanka's most notorious criminals.
The discovery was made during a joint search operation carried out by Prison Intelligence officers and the Police Special Task Force (STF).
Prison Media Spokesman Jagath Weerasinghe said the seized phones were found in wards where several high-profile inmates are being held.
Among them, mobile phones were discovered in the cells of death row inmate Dematagoda Chaminda, large-scale drug trafficker 'Wele Suda' and underworld figure 'Midigama Ruwan'.
