Sri Lanka, July 1 -- An individual who held a dansala in Saliyawewa area to serve quids of betel containing tobacco on Poson Full Moon Poya day ended up in courts.

Public Health Inspectors carried out the raid on information from the public and explained to the individual concerned that it was illegal under Chapter 37(1) of the Tobacco and Liquor Ordinance No 26 of 2006 to serve tobacco-free at a dansala and that he had not obtained permission to hold his dansala.

However, he refused to admit the irregularity and behaved in an unruly manner obstructing the duty of the PHIs.

The officers informed the police and recorded his statement with the help of the police and ordered to appear before the Puttalam Magistrate on July 09.
