Paid leave essential to workers' health and well-being
Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- Sri Lanka's workers are already entitled to a range of paid leave and holidays, but as workplaces become increasingly connected, a greater concern may be whether employees are actually able to switch off when they take time away from work.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Head of the Environmental and Occupational Health Unit at the Ministry of Health, Dr Inoka Suraweera, said time away from work is important for workers' health.
She said the health impact of work has to be considered alongside the amount of time people spend at their jobs. "If you just imagine a day, you spend at least around eight hours at the workplace, and you do this for 35-40 years," Dr Suraweera said.
