SriLanka, April 4 -- The government spends more than Rs. 6 million of public tax money to produce a single doctor, Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Minister, Upali Pannila said today.

Addressing the opening ceremony of a private hospital in Kiribathgoda this morning (04), the Minister highlighted the significant public investment made in higher education, particularly in the medical field. He noted that the cost of training a doctor is considerably higher compared to other professions.

According to the Minister, the government spends approximately Rs. 3 million to produce an engineer, underscoring the comparatively high expenditure required for medical education.
