Sri Lanka, Aug. 14 -- Galenbindunuwewa Police have recovered a cache of ammunition from the bed of the Getalawa Canal during a search operation launched following public information.
The stock comprising 5,038 live T56 cartridges had been buried in the canal bed and surfaced after the waterway dried up due to the prevailing dry weather.
Police said further search operations are underway to determine if more ammunition remains concealed in the area. No arrests have been made so far, and investigators have yet to identify those responsible for dumping the stock in the canal.
