Srilanka, Oct. 5 -- Over 30,000 electricity breakdowns were reported across the country yesterday due to adverse weather conditions, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Technicians' Union said, warning that restoration may be delayed because of their ongoing work-to-rule campaign.

Union Chairman Kosala Abeysinghe said today that the trade union action has entered its 31st day.

"If the government responds appropriately, electricity breakdowns could be restored instantly. Previously, we were able to restore up to 60,000 breakdowns within 48 hours. However, due to the current work-to-rule campaign, restorations will be delayed beyond expectations," Abeysinghe said.
