SriLanka, Nov. 14 -- More than 16,000 people have been arrested during the countrywide anti-narcotics operation "Nation United - National Drive," launched to eradicate drug trafficking and related crimes.
According to police, 16,915 raids were carried out between October 30 and yesterday (13), resulting in the arrest of 16,738 suspects. Investigations have also been launched into 20 individuals over alleged illegal assets, while detention orders have been obtained for 396 suspects.
The operation led to the seizure of 110 kg and 556 g of heroin, 600 kg and 947 g of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 10 g of cocaine, and 458 kg and 216 g of cannabis, police added.
