Sri Lanka, July 9 -- The government has officially re-designated the Old Bogambara prison premises as a prison under the Prisons Ordinance through a Gazette notification issued by Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara.

The notification states that the Minister has exercised the powers vested in him under Section 2 of the Prisons Ordinance (Chapter 54) to establish a prison at the Old Bogambara premises.

With the publication of the Gazette, the premises will legally function as a prison for the purposes of the Prisons Ordinance.

The order has been issued under the authority granted to the Minister by Section 2 of the Prisons Ordinance.
