Sri Lanka, March 20 -- A massive fuel storage complex near Thalawakele Railway Station for storing diesel and kerosene has been left to the mercy of the jungle for several decades.

Residents of the area said it had met the requirements of the upcountry estates and several towns in the past. They pointed out the fuel storage complex with the capacity of millions of litres of diesel, kerosene and furnace oil had been managed by a private sector company under the supervision of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

They expressed concern about the sad state of this massive fuel storage complex that could be used to provide an uninterrupted supply of fuel to the upcountry estates and a vast population in the surrounding areas.
