Non-SLS helmets seized; two traders fined
Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- The Mahara Magistrate's Court has fined a retailer and a distributor for selling and distributing protective helmets without the mandatory Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLS) certification mark and ordered the destruction of the seized stock.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said legal action was instituted by its Gampaha District Investigation Unit against New Indigahamula Oil Mart in Weliweriya and Rider Helmet in Makola North for violating Directive No. 59 issued under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
According to the CAA, a raid carried out on July 28 led to the seizure of 42 protective helmets that did not bear the required SLS 517 certification mark.
