Sri Lanka, Aug. 13 -- The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today arrested Dr. Nayanajith Hemantha Ranasinghe, Acting Deputy Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), over a bribery case dating back to 2024.

Dr. Ranasinghe, who formerly served as Deputy Director of Prison Health Services, is accused of demanding Rs. 1.5 million to facilitate continued treatment for an inmate at the Welikada Prison Hospital, where the prisoner had been admitted for illness and received inpatient care.

CIABOC officials allege that Rs. 300,000 of the demanded bribe was paid.

The arrest was made this morning at his residence in Pitakotte. Dr. Ranasinghe is to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate'...
