Colombo, Sept. 28 -- The Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Coast Guard, seized an Indian fishing boat and apprehended 12 Indian fishermen for illegal fishing off Delft Island in Jaffna during early morning operations today.

The Northern Naval Command, continuing its efforts to protect local fishermen's livelihoods, regularly patrols Sri Lankan waters to curb foreign poaching. Naval personnel deployed to drive away intruding boats successfully conducted a compliant boarding, resulting in the seizure.

The captured boat and fishermen were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mailadi for legal action.
