Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- The Sri Lanka Navy has confiscated 149 pigeons that were being illegally smuggled into the country by sea from India, officials said.

According to the Navy, the birds were found concealed on a vessel travelling from India to Kalpitiya. The vessel's operator and one other individual have been taken into custody.

The seized pigeons were handed over to wildlife authorities for further action.
