Colombo, Sept. 25 -- SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa today called on the government to take immediate, proactive steps to safeguard families in Sri Lanka's northern regions who are at risk of displacement during the upcoming monsoon season.

Speaking in Parliament, Rajapaksa highlighted the recurring hardships faced by residents who are forced to seek temporary shelter in schools and government buildings as seasonal rains trigger flooding and other emergencies.

"Every year, families are displaced and seek refuge only after disaster strikes. We need a coordinated effort to relocate vulnerable communities in advance to ensure their safety and reduce disruption," he said.
