Sri Lanka, Aug. 24 -- Indian Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has raised concern over the detention of former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, cautioning against what he described as "the politics of vengeance."

In a post on social media, Tharoor said Wickremesinghe was being held on charges that, "at first sight, appear trivial." He also highlighted the former leader's deteriorating health, noting that Wickremesinghe had been transferred from the prison hospital to the National Hospital in Colombo.

Calling on the Sri Lankan authorities to respect the judicial process while ensuring humane treatment, Tharoor urged that Wickremesinghe be accorded dignity after his decades of public service.
