Sri Lanka, Oct. 27 -- Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya said that investigations have revealed that Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Jagath Withana, who recently claimed he was receiving death threats, has alleged connections with those involved with underworld figures.

The IGP made these remarks after meeting the Maha Nayaka Thera of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya.

He said the MP was provided with temporary police protection following the reported threats.

"It has been revealed that the MP has certain links with individuals involved in organised crime. We are conducting an open investigation to determine the basis of these threats," the IGP said.
