Sri Lanka, Aug. 8 -- Special Investigations Unit of the Hatton Police Division has initiated investigations of a fraud amounting to Rs.16.2 million of Aswesuma funds in Norwood Divisional Secretariat in Nuwara Eliya.

Two female officers involved in the fraud had been arrested earlier by the Hatton Police and remanded till August 11.

Divisional Secretary Sameera Gamlath on August 06 complained to police that the involvement of the fraud has increased to Rs.16.2 million and three more officers are involved.

The fraud had come to light when Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Thushari Thennakoon initiated a probe into the alleged fraud in response to complaints received from Aswesuma beneficiaries.
