Sri Lanka, Oct. 13 -- The majority of hospitalizations in Sri Lanka are caused by accidents, many of which are preventable, Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

He said that reducing such accidents would benefit both the national health system and the country's economy.

The Minister made these remarks during a special public awareness walk held last morning (12).

The event, held under the patronage of Dr. Jayatissa, aimed to engage the community and recognize the efforts of medical staff treating accident victims.

The walk commenced at Colombo National Hospital, passed through Viharamaha Devi Park, and concluded at Independence Square.
