Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- The recently resumed construction of the Kadawatha-Mirigama section of the Central Expressway can be completed more effectively with the active involvement of local engineers, Sri Lanka Construction Association (SLCA) President Susantha Liyanarachchi told the Daily Mirror.

He noted that 18 kilometres of the section will be built on stilts, with a 13-14 km stretch passing through marshy terrain. "Since the expressway is being built near marshy areas with vertical concrete stilts, it is vital that local engineers play a key role. They have a thorough understanding of the country's rainy weather, terrain, soil conditions, and marshland features," Liyanarachchi said.
