Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- Legal amendments required to prohibit corporal punishment of children were discussed at the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Women and Child Affairs.

The issue was raised during the Committee meeting held in Parliament on September 22 under the chairmanship of Minister Saroja Savitri Paulraj.

The Committee considered the need for necessary legal reforms to strengthen the protection of children from physical punishment.

Deputy Minister Dr. Namal Sudarshana, other Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament and officials of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs participated in the meeting.
