Landslide risk rises in areas affected by Ditwah, NBRO warns
Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- The risk of landslides and rockfalls has increased in areas affected by Cyclone Ditwah due to recent heavy rainfall, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) warned.
According to NBRO Senior Scientist Dr. Wasantha Senadeera, the ground has become saturated with water following the prevailing rainy conditions, increasing the possibility of slope failures.
He urged the public to remain vigilant as landslides and rockfalls could occur even with light rainfall under the current conditions.
Dr. Senadheera said weather forecasts indicate an increase in rainfall on August 7 and 8, adding that high-intensity showers could trigger earth slips, soil erosion and rockfalls.
