Srilanka, Aug. 9 -- Sri Lanka limited-overs captain Kusal Mendis has been elected the first President of the newly established Sri Lanka Professional Cricketers' Association (SLPCA).

The appointment was confirmed at the association's inaugural general meeting, which was attended by several prominent national cricketers, including Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamari Athapaththu.

The newly formed association aims to provide an independent and collective voice for Sri Lanka's professional cricketers and advocate for their rights, welfare and professional interests.

The SLPCA is set to be affiliated with the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA), the global body representing professional cricketers.
