SriLanka, Sept. 11 -- Reconstruction work on the Kakkaitivu Savarkattu Fishery Association Harbour in Jaffna, which was severely damaged by Cyclone 'Ditwah', officially commenced on September 10 under the direction of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar.

The project follows longstanding requests from the Savarkattu fishing community. Following the required approvals from relevant authorities, including the Coast Conservation Department, the Ministry of Fisheries has allocated an initial Rs. 2.1 million for the first phase of the redevelopment.
