Judges retirement age extension: Bill gazetted
Sri Lanka, Aug. 7 -- The Gazette containing the Bill for the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution has been published, proposing to revise the retirement ages of superior court judges and increase the number of judges in the Court of Appeal.
According to the Bill, Article 107(5) of the Constitution will be amended to provide that judges of the Supreme Court shall retire upon reaching the age of 67, while judges of the Court of Appeal shall retire at the age of 65.
The proposed amendment also states that the Chief Justice shall retire on the earlier of reaching the age of 67 or completing six years in office
