Sri Lanka, Feb. 13 -- The Jana Aragalaya Alliance said appeals are expected against the death sentences for 12 accused in the killing of former MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security officer.

Speaking at a Colombo press conference, Executive Committee Member Nuwan Bopage claimed the real "killers" remain free and blamed the Rajapaksa-Ranil coalition's political environment.

The group also criticised the Attorney General's Department over the May 9 Galle Face Green attack and questioned why politicians like Sanath Nishantha, Johnston Fernando, and Namal Rajapaksa have not been held accountable.
