Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- The joint opposition yesterday expressed fears that a powerful group within the government is all out to secure an extension of the term of the President and Parliament through approval of the people by referendum instead of having regular elections.
It charged that attempts would be aimed at suppressing the opposition and creating a fear psychosis.
This allegation was made by the joint opposition's convener, former Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Leader of United Republic Front Patali Champika Ranawaka
