Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- The Department of Prisons has launched a special investigation into a clash between two inmates identified as alleged organised crime figures, Nadun Chinthaka Wickremeratne, alias "Harak Kata", and Mandinu Padmasiri, alias "Kehelbaddara Padme", at the Welisara Prison.

Prison authorities said an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons has been appointed to conduct an inquiry into the incident and determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation.

The clash reportedly took place last night (22) while both inmates were being held at the Welisara Prison.

During the altercation, Kehelbaddara Padme sustained injuries and was subsequently admitted for medical treatment.
