Srilanka, Aug. 9 -- Legal identification for Sri Lanka's Indigenous communities will be introduced under new measures announced by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, as the Government moves ahead with long-awaited legislation to protect their rights and traditional way of life.

Speaking at the World Indigenous Peoples' Day 2026 celebrations held at the Indigenous Heritage Museum premises in Dambana today (9), Amarasuriya said an extraordinary Gazette notification addressing several longstanding issues affecting Indigenous communities had been signed under the leadership of the Minister in charge of the environment.
