Immediate measures underway to address flooding on airport access roads
Sri Lanka, June 5 -- Immediate action has been launched to address the recurring flooding of access roads leading to the Bandaranaike International Airport, following interventions by Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku.
According to decisions taken at a special discussion held on 28 May 2026 under his leadership, a task force appointed for the purpose commenced work on 4 June 2026 to clean canals in the area and improve their capacity.
Relevant institutions have jointly begun implementing immediate measures, focusing on clearing blockages in drainage canals, increasing their capacity, and improving the regulation of rainwater flow.
