SriLanka, Oct. 1 -- The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a formal criminal investigation into alleged negligence and delays by police officers in handling intelligence related to a major illicit drug consignment seized at the Colombo Port on August 31, 2026.

The decision follows an interim investigation by the Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU), which found that officers responsible for acting on an initial intelligence report had allegedly failed to take appropriate action.
