Srilanka, July 26 -- The Bandarawela Magistrate's Court has imposed a Rs. 1 million fine on a hotel in the Nafora area of Karandagolla, Ella, after it admitted to selling bottled drinking water above the stipulated maximum retail price, authorities said.

The case was filed by investigation officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) in the Badulla District following a raid conducted on July 10, 2026. During the inspection, officials found that the hotel had been charging customers more than the legally permitted price for bottled water.

When the matter was taken up before the Bandarawela Magistrate's Court, the hotel company pleaded guilty to the charges of violating provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act. The court subs...
