Sri Lanka, Nov. 7 -- Hosting the Asian Broadcasters' Union conference was an opportunity for Sri Lanka as it was used to promote the island as a tourist destination, Minister Vijitha Hearth said.

The Minister told Parliament that representatives on TV channels of more than 60 nations attended the conference.

"These delegates were taken to various tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. They have done documentaries in Sri Lanka. These will be aired in their respective countries. Therefore, it was an opportunity for Sri Lanka," the Minister said.

"A wrong impression has been created on spending funds for the ABU conference but the truth is that Sri Lanka is going to benefit from it," he added.
