Sri Lanka, May 13 -- Heavy showers exceeding 200 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre warned in an advisory issued today (13).

The advisory, valid until 3.30 p.m., said the prevailing showery conditions are expected to continue further due to the low-pressure area in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is also expected in the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Trincomalee and Kurunegala districts.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
